Standing at a Crossroads? 4 Questions to Ask Yourself

11/1/2026

There are moments in life when the road splits in front of you. Maybe it’s a career change, a move, a relationship, a creative project, or a choice about how you want to spend the next chapter of your life. You can feel the weight of the decision, and every option seems to pull you in a different direction.

In these moments, it’s tempting to make endless pro-and-con lists or to ask everyone you know for advice. Those can help. Often, though, the clearest answers come from slowing down and asking yourself the right questions.

Here are four to guide you.
1. What would I choose if I weren’t afraid?
Fear has a way of hiding our true desires. It tells us to play it safe, stay small or stick with what’s familiar. Imagine for a moment that fear wasn’t part of the equation. Which path would you choose? That answer is worth paying attention to.
2. Which path feels like expansion?
Picture yourself taking each path, one at a time. Notice what happens in your body. Does one option make you feel lighter, more open, more alive? Does another make you tense up or hold your breath? Your body often knows before your mind catches up.
3. What would my future self thank me for?
Imagine yourself a year from now. Which choice would that version of you be grateful you made? Your future self has a way of seeing past temporary discomfort to what truly matters.
4. Does this honor what matters most to me?
Your values are your compass. When a choice aligns with what you care about most, such as freedom, family, creativity, growth or service, it tends to feel right even when it’s challenging.

There’s No Wrong Turn
Crossroads can feel high-stakes, as if one wrong move could change everything. The truth is gentler than that. There’s no wrong turn, only your next step. Every path teaches you something, and you can always adjust course along the way.
If you’ve asked yourself these questions and still feel unsure, that’s okay. Sometimes fear and intuition get tangled, and it helps to have someone guide you through the noise. (If that sounds familiar, you’ll find my guide to telling intuition from fear helpful.)

How to Tell Intuition from Fear

You’re facing a decision, and something inside you says no. Or maybe it says go. Either way, you feel it in your gut. But is that feeling your intuition guiding you, or fear trying to keep you safe?
This is one of the most common questions I hear. Intuition and fear can feel remarkably alike at first, because both arrive as a gut reaction. Once you know what to look for, though, they’re surprisingly different. Here are six ways to tell them apart.
1. In your body
Intuition feels calm and steady, a quiet sense of settling or expansion. Fear feels tight and tense, like a racing heart or a knot in your stomach.
2. Its voice
Intuition speaks in a voice that’s quiet, neutral and kind. Fear is loud, urgent and often harsh.
3. Its focus
Intuition stays in the present moment and speaks to what is true right now. Fear lives in the future, spinning an endless loop of “what ifs.”
4. Its message
Intuition is simple and clear, often a single word, image or sense of knowing. Fear is complicated and repetitive, full of worst-case stories.
5. How it nudges
Intuition is gentle and patient. It returns softly until you listen. Fear applies pressure, demanding that you act right now or freeze in place.
6. After you listen
When you follow your intuition, you feel relief and peace, even when the path ahead is hard. When you follow fear, you usually feel more worry, more questions and more noise.
Here’s the full comparison at a glance. Save it for the next time you’re unsure which voice to trust:

A Quick Check You Can Use Anytime
When you’re not sure what you’re feeling, pause and take three slow breaths. Then ask yourself one simple question: Does this feel like expansion or contraction?
Expansion, a sense of openness, ease or quiet yes, usually points to intuition. Contraction, a sense of tightening, bracing or pulling back, usually points to fear.
Fear isn’t the enemy. It’s often trying to protect you. Its job isn’t to make your decisions, though. When you learn to recognize fear for what it is, you can thank it, set it aside and listen for the quieter voice underneath.
Learning to Trust Your Inner Knowing
Telling intuition from fear gets easier with practice, and it’s even easier with support. In my Intuitive Strategic Sessions, we work together to quiet the noise, hear what your inner knowing is really saying and turn that insight into clear, grounded next steps.

Strategy vs. Intuition: Why the Best Decisions Use Both

10/1/2026

Most of us were taught to make decisions with our heads. Gather the facts, weigh the pros and cons, make the logical choice. Yet we’ve all had moments when the “right” decision on paper felt completely wrong inside, or when a quiet inner knowing turned out to be exactly right.
So which should you trust: strategy or intuition?
The answer is both. Each one brings something the other can’t.
Strategy: your logical mind
Strategy gives you structure. It looks at data and facts, sets clear plans and goals, analyzes your options and maps out concrete next steps. Strategy keeps you grounded and moving forward.
Intuition: your inner knowing
Intuition gives you direction. It speaks through gut feelings, inner wisdom, a sense of energy and timing, and that unmistakable sense of what feels right. Intuition keeps you true to yourself.
Aligned decisions: where they meet
When you use only strategy, you may create smart plans that don’t feel true to who you are. When you use only intuition, you may have inspired ideas but no clear path forward. When the two work together, you make aligned decisions, choices that both make sense and feel right.

Two Simple Questions
Before your next big decision, pause and ask yourself two questions:
  1. Does it make sense? Check in with your strategic mind. Do the facts support this choice? Is there a clear plan?
  2. Does it feel right? Check in with your inner knowing. Do you feel a sense of ease, excitement or peace? Or is something holding you back?
When the answer to both is yes, you’ve found an aligned decision. When they disagree, that’s your invitation to slow down and listen more closely.
